This world is designed to wreck our confidence.
Especially the more time you spend online.
Images of beautiful women. Gorgeous marketing. Stunning young influencers.
And there you are, the same ordinary woman you’ve been your entire life, trying to compete when the rules have changed.
I remember the days when it was a big deal to get photos taken.
Someone had to have a camera. You needed a third party to take the picture, or risk a blurry photo with half a face cropped out.
And then you had to wait until you’d used up all the pictures, take the film cannister to a shop, pay to get it developed, and at the end? All you had was one measly print to pin on your wall.
So it didn’t matter so much if the camera didn’t like you. You could just avoid anyone waving a camera around.
That’s not the case today.
Today, everyone has to have at least one professional-quality photo of themselves for their online profiles.
And if the camera hates you, woe to you when your meetings are held on Zoom!
Looking good on camera is a requirement. And here’s the thing:
It’s a skill that can be learned.
Young people today look great on camera because they’re constantly practicing. They’re figuring out what the camera likes. They’re adjusting their angles, their facial expressions, their makeup, the lighting.
It doesn’t matter if you’re not a natural. Learn what the camera likes, and you can be its friend.
So much of life is like this.
We think we’re not good at something, so we avoid it.
We think we’re not good at making new friends, so we don’t say hi to someone new.
We think we’re not good at networking, so we spend that party in the company of the one or two people we know.
We think we’re not good at dating, so we put our profile up and wait for someone else to make the first move.
That’s why I wrote Effortlessly Likable.
It teaches you the skills to feel more confident in social situations.
I wasn’t a natural, either! But I got thrown in the deep end when I began traveling the world.
I had to make friends with strangers. I had to get along with people completely different to me.
And so I learned.
Effortlessly Likable is a fun read, containing stories from my travels and career.
And by the end, you’ll realize that you’ve got your own brand of charisma.
Discover the confidence that comes from effortless connection.
